Kosmos Innovation Center Women’s bootcamp- Ho

When my friend Sheila Cornelius and I saw an advert by Kosmos Innovation Center Ghana calling for women in agribusiness to apply to attend a bootcamp in Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana, we both hesitated because of one factor that disqualified us from applying…Age. We were both above the age limit stated as application requirements. The program was for women in agribusiness in the tertiary institutions within a certain age group to nuture the desire in entrepreneurship in the Agroecological value chain as well as boost their interest in the KIC Agritech Challenge. Nonetheless, we decided to apply. Afterall we are women willing to network, find new ideas to build our companies being the CEO of LAVITESSE www.lavitessegh.com and Shiela, CEO of Cornelius Farms and LAM Naturals. We strongly felt the urge to apply and we did. I sent Shiela a screenshot of an email confirming my selection and asked for hers….you can imagine our joy when she sent hers almost immediately. We were really happy to join in this incubation program organised by KIC. We arrived safely and were willing to learn and share. The organisers were really helpful to us all, making sure we were comfortable, having fun alongside learning. When we both got the opportunity to share some tit bits regarding our entrepreneurial journey and some lessons along the way, it dawned on us why we had been selected to be part of this program. Then came the time when we were put into teams of 5 to put together pitches for presentation to panelists. Shiela and I were now very convinced this opportunity was a divine task. We put in our all mentoring and coaching members of our team on confidence, public speaking skills, presentation skills, even life skills etc. just in a few hours in the day. Elikplim, Ruby and Alice Oluwalolola are really smart ladies. Very intelligent and willing to learn quickly. We realised early they have unique strengths and weaknesses: **Alice is the marketer like myself, speaks well and would be able to lead the presentation. **Ruby is the tech savvy one. Using her phone she put all our thoughts into a well designed ppt presentation. **Elilplim is the idea generator and hers was the idea chosen for the presentation **Shiela and I were the mesdame coaches and mentors for the team…lol. We had ful joy doing so. In the end, our team EL-RUCE, an abbreviation of (Elikplim, Ruby, Alice) won the pitching competition. Just the joy on the faces of these ladies was fulfilling for Shiela and I. We felt very proud of them and encouraged them to take agribusiness seriously in order to create wealth and employment alongside impacting the environment positively. Shiela and I resolved to be their coaches on this journey going forward while looking forward to other opportunities to replicate this task when they arise in various institutions. Here below is our winning team. Ahooo, Ahoyaaa!!! Well done ladies, break the glass ceiling 💯. #opportunity #agribusiness #mentoring
